Foreigners find a spiritual connect to Hinduism while Indians continue to disdain it!

The history books keep an account of the invasions that India has withstood since the beginning of the civilization, but what they don’t record is – the intellectual depletion that has taken place over a thousand years of slavery.  Our colonial mindset doesn’t allow us to differentiate between “modernization” & “westernization”.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg mentioned that he had visited a temple in India during the initial days of Facebook on the advice of late Apple founder Steve Jobs. “He (Jobs) told me that in order to reconnect with what I believed as the mission of the company I should visit this temple that he had gone to in India, early on in his evolution of thinking about what he wanted Apple and his vision of the future to be.” said Zuckerberg. He also added “Facebook wasn’t doing so well” before his spiritual trip to meet a saint named –  Neem Karoli Baba.

Legendary Steve Jobs is said to have got the vision for creating Apple after he visited the same saint – Neem Karoli Baba. The temple Jobs was talking about, to Mark Zuckerberg is Kainchi Dham Ashram in Nainital, Uttarakhand,  the ashram of Neem Karoli Baba.. He himself had visited the temple during the 1970s.

The renowned Hollywood celebrity Julia Roberts admits that a picture of Neem Karoli Baba drew her to Hinduism.

BUT, Alas!

Back home in INDIA, it’s fashionable & upmarket to:
1. Criticize Hinduism & become famous ( best shortcut to shoot to fame )
2. Government taxes temples but not the mosques & churches.
3. Going to temples is superstitious.
4. Make fun of Hindu rituals in a movie & earn 600 crores
5. Find one fraud बाबा out of 100 & label him as face of Hindu monks.
6. Write/say against Hindus & get a ticket to a ‪”Secular“‬ party or a promotion in journalism
7. Stop celebrating Hindu festivals for the sake of environment.

The young generation be like -” hey WTF is religion bro ? Hinduism is obsolete. Write on some trending topics”

Dear cools.. err.. fools, see, Steve jobs searched for spirituality in temples when he was 18 & look what he found. Zuckerberg visited temples before becoming the YOUNGEST ever billionaire.

Indians are getting cut off from their glorious past! “West is the best mentality”

While Hinduism keeps getting widespread respect across the globe for its contribution in philosophy & spirituality, here at home, the younger generation in particular, finds it “modern” to dissociate themselves from their Hindu identity. Such is the bizarre state of our education, that we are a civilization that’s not just cut off from its past but also feel proud to show that.

Example: V S Naipul quotes a true story of a journalist who narrates- “When I visit the sun temple with my Grandpa, I don’t need a guide, he can explain the architectural marvel of the temple, how the wheels determine time with precision etc. But when I visit the temple alone, I roam like a tourist knowing nothing.” This explains how, with every upcoming generation, we are getting culturally cut-off from our past.

The timeless wisdom preserved in the holy scriptures of Hindus like – Gita, Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads remain unexplored, while we, the Indians, descendants of a highly developed five thousand year old civilization, look towards the west for the solutions. And those of us who try to uphold our culture & values, are labeled – outdated & antiquated.

Such is the irony of our wounded civilization, that this time, it’s not under the threat of any foreign invader, rather, the foreigners are hailing our tradition, the real challenge is from within, our cultural heritage is faced with an internal decay. Thanks to the pseudo secular politicians working on the payroll of the west, we have forgotten our glorious past & accepted subjugation to west.
